Gillian Brett is a Chiswick based artist inspired by human life. A graduate from Brighton Art School and The Art Academy London, Gillian has exhibited widely in the UK, most notably with ING Discerning Eye 2024 & 23, Women In Art Fair 2024 at the Mall Galleries and has won numerous awards for sculpture including Wales Contemporary in 2023.
In addition to using traditional materials such as plaster, bronze and stone, Gillian loves to work in clay and enjoys experimenting with ceramic glazes and oxide finishes. “I work from life, sculpting real people in the space with me. I work fast, sketching in clay, without measurement. This results in textures that feel more alive to me than a perfect reproduction. I’m excited by the inherent jeopardy in firing my work as ceramic, often relishing the unexpected results.”
Gillian has taught ‘Sculpture inspired by Life’ at Chiswick Art School and The Clay Garden, and more recently from her home studio.
In 2024 Gillian has won her first public commission to create a commemorative sculpture in Coronation Gardens, Southfields.
Gillian is also available for commission work, please enquire within the gallery.
